Meet Arlene Hartin

Arlene was born and raised in Eureka, California. After going through all school grades
in Eureka, she graduated from Eureka High
School in 1959.
In December, 1960, she married William Hartin, with whom she has one son, William
John, a retired software engineer living in Arizona.
Her husband passed away in December, 2011.
Arlene graduated from Humboldt State University, and went to work for Caltrans in 1966 in the District 1 Office in Human Resources,
which included time in Personnel, as an Affirmative Action Officer, and the District Personnel Officer. Arlene was also the Caltrans
District 1 representative to the California Transportation Foundation.
She retired from Caltrans in 2001 with 35 years of service.
Outside of family, work and friends, she keeps a busy schedule with the Humboldt
County Historical Society, having joined
the organization in 1960, along with several other related organizations.
She is currently a Regional Vice President for the Conference of California Historical
Societies, representing organizations in Humboldt
and Del Norte Counties.
Arlene's special interests include highway history, reading, family genealogy, travel, and collecting Humboldt County history.
